PROMEC - Economic Promotion of Smallholder Farming Units

Breve Descrição

Target group: The market-oriented (however not yet fully market-integrated) smallholder farmer households of the 2 districts. Overall objective: Livelihood and environmental sustainability of smallholder farming households in the 2 project districts have been secured. Project purpose: The rural smallholder households targeted by the project increase their income generating capacity and have access to complementary support from public and private service providers. Expected results: 1.Self-reliant and self-managed Farmers Associations (FAs) at grass-root and secondary level are established and strengthened to carry out rural business operations. 2.A participatory and cost-effective extension system (“farmer to farmer') is introduced and consolidated, in coordination with the DPASofala, the 2 DDAs and other service providers. 3.The smallholder farming households produce market-led cash crops, increasing their productivity and applying sustainable technologies in primary production and post-harvest conservation. 4.Viable and appropriate small- and medium-scale agro-processing technologies are identified, adapted, and promoted. 5.Pilot production and marketing activities, applying innovative technologies and strategies, are promoted and supported.
