Survey on Voter Attitudes and Behaviour of the 2004 elections in Mozambique - EIS.1

Breve Descrição

4.1 Overall objective: This project’s overall objective is to contribute to the reduction of absolute poverty, improvement of the living conditions by means of strengthening of the participation of all stakeholders in a sustainable, democratic, economic and socio-cultural development. 4.2 Project purpose: The purpose of the project is to support basic rights and the political process by the provision of data on voter attitudes and –performance.4.3 Expected results a)Nation-wide survey on voter behavior and –attitudes was carried out successfully. Data and information on why voters decide for one or the other political party or politician and which factors influence these decisions are provided in this survey. b)The survey report has been produced and published. c)The study results have been disseminated widely. 4.4 Activities: The activities in this project will be: a)Preparation and conduct of a nation-wide survey on voter attitudes and behavior. a-1: Preparation of the questionnaire forms, reviewing information from various sources on the 2004 elections and electoral process, a-2: Logistical preparations and launch of survey in all provinces, a-3: Conduct of survey in all provinces, a-4: Bringing the filled-out questionnaire forms to Maputo, a-5: Entry of data and running of cross-tabulation routine programs, b)Elaboration and publication of survey report. b-1: Analysis of results, b-2: Drafting of survey report, b-3: Reviewing draft and finalization of Portuguese version and English summary, c)Dissemination of study-results in a workshop, seminar or conference and additionally by means of a cooperation with Radio Mozambique, where radio programs will be provided with information on the progress and findings of the study, as also with other relevant information on electoral issues. c-1: Introductory workshop after the elections for and with program directors of Radio Mozambique to brief them on the survey, the cooperation with EISA Mozambique and on how to proceed in this cooperation activities. This workshop will be organized by staff of the EU-project RADICE,c-2: Dissemination of study contents, aims and results, in cooperation with Radio Mozambique (radio programs, live transmissions in the project RADICE)c-3: Presentation of research findings in a workshop, seminar or conference, planned to be conducted in cooperation with Radio Mozambique, In its conceptualisation the project is integrated in the context of the Austrian Development Cooperation and reflects relevant developments in Mozambique. The project activities aim at supporting the democratic process by the conduct of a study on voter attitudes and -behaviour. It is assumed that the implementation of this project will have positive effects and contributes to the objectives of the Austrian Development Cooperation’s program in Mozambique, by favouring the democratic process and decentralization by means of supporting the production and provision of data.
