Project / Programme Title
Support to the Microfinance Sector (participation FSTAP)
Brief Project Description
The Microfinance (MF) project is part of the Financial Sector Technical Assistance Programme (FSTAP), supported by the World Bank, African Development Bank and German Development Cooperation (DC). German DC implements component 5 of the FSTAP (Micro- and Rural Finance). The focus of the project is to support the Microfinance sector by facilitating the demand driven creation and evolution of a, in the long-term sustainable MFI Network, which would form the mouth piece of the Mozambican MF industry. Furthermore, the project offers tailor made support to the Central Bank in the area of regulation and supervision of microfinance. This suppport could start with a diagnosis of the regulatory framework for MF. All activities are based on a demand driven approach and close cooperation and coordination with other activities in the MF sector. A close coordination (and partly co-funding) is particulary planned with KfW, RFSP, but also with all other supporters of microfinance. Underlying principles of all activities of the project are: • a Systemic Approach to Financial System Development • a “Bottom-up” Process and Ownership/Responsibility of Partners • Strong Coordination among all Stakeholders • Incorporation of International Experience • Sustainability (market prices etc.) • Quality of Services • Strengthen Local Knowledge/Capacity Building • Institution building
