Capacity Building and Advocacy on HIV/AIDS for the Health Sector

Breve Descrição

In Mozambique, the latest HIV projection data estimates 14.9% of the adult population (15-49 years) was HIV infected, with approximately 1.4 million people infected overall (or 8% of the total population). The number of adults infected with HIV is expected to rise to 15.6% in 2005 (INE and MOH, 2002). By 2010, without lifesaving treatment and aggressive prevention, it is projected that HIV prevalence among the adult population will increase to 16.8%, and the number of people living with HIV will rise to nearly 1.9 million (INE and MOH, 2002). The 'Capacity Building and Advocacy on HIV/AIDS' project aims to contribute to the government’s efforts to reduce the incidence of HIV/AIDS and its impact on Human Development by strengthening institutional capacity in the health sector. It intends to support the training of health staff at Central, Provincial and District level in the field of Voluntary Counseling and Testing, Management of ARV and opportunistic infections, Universal Norms of Bio-Security and Blood Safety. It also seeks to develop catalytic projects with traditional healers and asssociations of People Living with HIV/AIDS.
