Project Fact Sheet for YY 105-02

Project / Programme Title
Programme Communication
Brief Project Description
The programme consists of three complementary components. Component 1: Advocacy and Partnerships for Child Rights. This component will support the Government and civil society organisations to implement the National HIV/AIDS Communication Strategy, with increased focus on prevention. It will also support the establishment of a child-friendly media network that will advocate for the creation of a protective and healthy environment for children. The key expected results under this component are: - At least 40% of national and provincial journalists trained and publishing articles on child rights; - Enhanced CNCS capacity at all levels to coordinate the implementation of the HIV communication strategy, ensuring an active involvement of NGOs/CBOs and Youth Associations; and - At least 50% of NGOs/CBOs and youth associations in 8 provinces actively participating in the implementation of national HIV/AIDS communication strategy at national and provincial levels. Component 2: Community Mobilisation and Awareness. This component will focus on raising the awareness of communities and mobilising them around social issues that affect the well-being and development of children, with the ultimate goal of creating an enabling and protective environment for children, young people and women. It will also focus on HIV prevention activities, involving communities, particularly young people, in the implementation of prevention programmes. The key expected results under this component are: - The majority of households within at least 200 communities reached by communication activities on good and safe hygiene practices; - People living within at least 80% of localities in 75 districts in 8 provinces reached by multimedia mobile units promoting social and behaviour change (encompassing areas of child survival and development, basic education – particularly girls education, child protection, HIV/AIDS); - People living within at least 80% of localities in 75 districts of 8 provinces reached by 100 community theatre groups (encompassing areas of child survival and development, basic education – particularly girls education, child protection, HIV/AIDS); - 40 radio stations in 8 provinces broadcasting programmes and debates (encompassing areas of child survival and development, basic education – particularly girls education, child protection, HIV/AIDS); and - 100 youth associations implementing peer communication programmes on HIV and AIDS prevention in 75 districts in 8 provinces. Component 3: Young People Participation. This component will support the strengthening of young people’s participation in community dialogues with local authorities, leaders, parents and teachers and the sensitisation of stakeholders to involve children and young people in local and national discussions. It will also provide support to Youth Associations to publicly voice their concerns and share their ideas with the Government and NGOs. Finally, this component will support the expansion of the national child-to-child media programme. The key expected results under this component are: - At least 1,500 children and young people producing and presenting child-to-child media programmes; and - At least 200 children and young people participating in local decision-making fora (school councils, community committees and provincial fora).
