Strengthening Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Preparedness

Brief Project Description

The overall goal of this UN joint program is to create the conditions that will lead to the strengthening of national capacities in Mozambique to prepare for, respond to and mitigate the humanitarian impact of emergencies on populations at risk in the country, within a general vulnerability reduction context. Within this joint program, FAO will provide technical assistance to carry out the following activities: - Vulnerability analysis in identified disaster prone districts; - Strengthening participatory planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of priority interventions from Emergency Preparedness (EP) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) action plans, including vulnerability reduction measures; - Support to communities for the development of risk and vulnerability reduction plans which include essential developmental elements such as agicultural risk reduction, epidemic prevention and surveillance and water resources management; - Improve links between Early Warning Systems (EWS) stakeholders through better communication and information dissemination and strengthen sector stakeholders contributions.
