- Promotion of Community Based Health Care in Sofala
- Breve Descrição
- The Austrian Red Cross is implementing this health care project together with the Mozambican Red Cross in 10 villages in Sofala. The ADC co-finances this project. The project contains several components: water&sanitation, healh care, nutrition and HIV-prevention. The target group of the project are: 9.500 people in ten communities in the remote rural Chemba district in the northern part of the Sofala province. All communities are located in the Localidade Chemba Sede and 3 de Fevereiro. The closest Health Centre for the target group is up to 25km away (depending on the location of the community). Special attention will be given to pregnant women and children under 5 and people affected by Malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS, furthermore to the capacity of 25 Red Cross community volunteers, 70 members of the community health committees and the capacity of CVM staff at district, provincial and national level. The total population of Chemba district is 65.107 (Census 2007) with 30.385 men and 34.722 women. The total population in the two localidades where the project will be implemented in is 19.300. This population will be the indirect beneficiaries as they will benefit from the HIV/AIDS drama campaigns, the activities in the neighbouring communities (spill over) and the advocacy and pressure on the DDS to keep the health centres fully operational.
