- Support The Creation of the Junod Center in Ricatla
- Brief Project Description
- A number of Swiss missionaires have lived and worked in Southern Mozambique since the 1880s. Most of them were not only men and women of the church, they also developed an interest for the history and culture of the local population and surrounding fauna and flora. The most famous one was Henri Junod (1863 - 1934). An impressive collection of books, brochures, letters, pictures, and drawings from these missionaires lies in the archives of the Mission in Switzerland. This project wants to give Mozambicans access to this rich heritage from a period that is otherwise poorly documented. A 'Junod Center' will be established in Ricatla, 25 km north of Maputo, to house this heritag. It will also provide a site of study, debate, and exchange of knowledge and values, the ultimate goal of which is to help Mozambicans in their quest of identity.
