Preparation of an Agricultural Statistics Master Plan and Development of the Agricultural Statistics System – Preparatory Phase

Brief Project Description

Following the successful conduct of the 1999-2000 Agricultural Census, attention has turned to the development of an integrated system of food and agricultural statistics that will serve the needs of planners, policy makers and technical staff in the development of the agricultural sector and the monitoring and evaluation of development policies. An improved flow of data is also needed to identify andAs a first step towards this goal, a data needs assessment will be carried out to ascertain the data needs and priorities of the key data users. Following this, a 10-year Statistical Master Plan for Food and Agricultural Statistics will be prepared taking into account the frequency of data collection required as well as the level of geographic disaggregation. An outline project proposal for external technical assistance to support the implementation of the Master Plan will also be developed. Finally, in order to maintain the momentum of this initiative, preparatory activities focusing on methodological development, training and the implementation of pilot activities will be conducted in preparation for a full implementation phase monitor the food insecure and to target specific development policies to combat rural poverty;
