- Water and Sanitation (WASH) - Southern Mozambique
- Breve Descrição
- The goal of the project is to improve water access and the standard of hygiene and sanitation for communities and schools in the districts of Guija, Bilene, Xai-Xai and Chibuto in Gaza Province in Southern Mozambique. Currently the main problem consists in missing or defective water pumps which limit the access to safe drinking water, as well as the lack of knowledge concerning sanitation and hygiene, which leads to water-related diseases. The problem of defective water pumps shall be solved by training members of water committees in the districts of Guija and Bilene (there are 300 water committees and a total of 1,200 committee members) in maintenance and repair of water pumps. Thereby municipalities can carry out necessary repair work by themselves. In Xai-Xai and Chibuto re-training for 30 water committees (120 committee members) is being performed. During the training of the committee members, knowledge concerning the financial participation of the municipalities as well as the procurement of spare parts, technical knowledge regarding the drilling of wells and the replacement of spare parts, as well as hygiene and sanitation skills to prevent diseases shall be conveyed. The teaching of these hygiene and sanitation skills aims on the one hand to 990 members of the water committees and on the other hand to 100 schools in terms of Child-to-child-Sanitation-Clubs (CCSC). Project partners are AMINA Aktiv für Menschen in Not Austria and AMURT Mozambique.
