Project Fact Sheet for 5634303021

Project / Programme Title
Strategic planning and programme monitoring on the World Heritage site of Ilha de Moçambique
Brief Project Description
Ilha de Moçambique was enlisted as a World Heritage site in 1991 and remains today the only World Heritage site in Mozambique. Despite the long-standing presence of several UN Agencies in the Island and its surroundings (UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNIDO, UNFPA, FAO, UN-HABITAT and WHO), no common efforts by the UN have been undertaken in view of adopting an integrated approach to the development of the Island as a whole. In addition, and regardless of the various development interventions carried out along the years, Ilha de Moçambique is today facing the concrete risk of being included in the List of World Heritage Sites in Danger. This project was designed to support joint planning of the UN Joint Programme on Ilha de Moçambique through administrative support.
