support to Austrian NGO " LIGHT FOR THE WORLD "

Breve Descrição

LIGHT FOR THE WORLD aims to break the vicious circle of poverty, illness and disability in order to strengthen and to improve the opportunities, living conditions and rights of people affected by these problems. For this purpose, LIGHT FOR THE WORLD supports sustainable programs and projects of local partner organizations in areas such as: - Preventing and curing blindness - Rehabilitation of disabled persons - Preventing and curing other disabilities - Advocating the rights of persons with disabilities LIGHT FOR THE WORLD supports initiatives of local partners in these areas, NGOs, Civil Society Organisations and also Governments. In its program work, LIGHT FOR THE WORLD focuses on some of the most marginalized countries and regions in the world. The priority countries are Ethiopia, Sudan, Burkina Faso and Mozambique. LIGHT FOR THE WORLD currently also supports programs in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, in Pakistan, Northeast India, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Bolivia. Light for the World started in 2003 with a pilot project at the Beira Central Hospital supporting the blindness prevention for the province of Sofala and providing comprehensive Eye Care. In 2005 Light for the World initiated together with WHO, IAPB and the Ministry of Health the first National Vision 2020 Planning Workshop (VISION 2020 is an international campaign to decrease curable blindness in the world). From that experience Light for the World will also expand its activities to the Northern Provinces of Cabo Delgado, Niassa and Zambezia and the Central Province of Tete in close collaboration with the Provincial Hospitals and the respective Eye Units. Light for the World also supports small local initiatives working for the Rights of Disabled People and provides Capacity Building activities for organisations that work in different sectors like sports, vocational training and education.
