Ficha do projecto para AID-656-A-15-00006
- Título do Projecto / Programa
- Integrated Gorongosa and Buffer Zone Project (IGBZ)
- Breve Descrição
- USAID partners with the Gorongosa Project to ensure the long-term viability and biodiversity of Gorongosa Nation Park’s ecosystems by involving buffer-zone communities in Park stewardship. The Integrated Gorongosa and Buffer Zone (IGBZ) project is a Global Development Alliance implemented with a 100 percent private sector match. The partner has a 25-year agreement with the Government of Mozambique to co-manage this conservation area, which is the prime conservation tourism destination in the country. The activity is a USAID model for integrated biodiversity conservation and human development approaches, and is globally recognized for its success in restoring both the park from post-conflict destruction, and improving economic and social development for approximately 200,000 Mozambicans living in the Park's buffer zone. FY 2018 funds will be used for continued activites that increase adoption of positive health and nutrition behaviors through maternal and child health programs, as well as, potentially, for a new TBD support activity in Gorongosa that supports the integration of biodiversity conservation with income and employment opportunities. Funds will also increase adoption of positive health and nutrition behaviors through maternal and child health programs; promote high nutrient crops and increase agricultural sector productivity and food security of buffer zone communities with emphasis on women; more effectively engage civil society in governance practices through education and establishment of community-based natural resource management groups; provide girls' education programs; improve park management through application of science; and enhance the enforcement of wildlife laws, conventions, and regulations. IGBZ supports several USAID priorities, including self-reliance, capacity building, women's empowerment, and a number of USAID Biodiversity Policy priorities and objectives, foremost partnerships and integration.
