Brief Project Description
The overall purpose of this project is to contribute to improved sustainability of equitable water use and reduced conflict potential amongst water users in the catchment’s area of the Zambezi River, in a way that will improve the well being of the population in the river basin. The project has two components: a) improved integrated management of the catchment’s water resources through the establishment of the catchment’s management authority within Mozambique, the ARA-Zambeze and b) to promote the development of integrated water supply and sanitation programmes in the Provinces of Tete, Manica and Sofala. The project comprises four types of individual commitments: a Technical Assistance to the National Water Directorate (DNA), a Technical Assistance to the Project ZAMWAT, a Project Management Unit (PMU) and Financial Audits. The financing agreement was signed in March 2000, with an implementation period of 5 years, and the project will end by September 2007.
